SEAN LATHE, R.I.P.... 4TH of JULY HERO! Our World has 1 Less Superhero this week. He Saved Countless Lives in the US Army. Class of 1985, Medi-vac Pilot, Sky Diver,Sky Diving, Shriner Clown, Free Mason... I Miss You, Cookie Cutter Girl, Pop Superhero

GOODBYE SEAN LATHE... WE'LL MISS YOUR SMILE FOREVER!

My 6th sense told me NOT to open my email, because it said my childhood friend was gone from this Earth, his smile never to grace my doorstep again...  Though I thought I must be paranoid, simply scared because Sean was a Medi-vac, I couldn't open the email at first.  Then, I ripped it open, like a band-aid, and felt my chest freeze as I breathed in the icy truth:  SEAN IS GONE.

Sean died on Sunday.  I woke up on Sunday inexplicably ill, and couldn't get out of bed for the entire day.  My head pounded & I slept most of it, having no energy or desire to move, sweating in and out of nightmares.  Had some part of me known on Sunday that our world was in morning?  I'll never know...

I'm still in shock.  It's not real.  Acceptance will take years.  I'm sure I will still hope for a surprise visit, when he visits his family in Maine, as his visits were always one of my favorite Christmas gifts.  But, as reality awakens me, and the dawning drains the blood from my face, I'll cry silent tears for the realization that SEAN IS GONE.  I'm sure I will have to repeat that to myself on far too many occassions over the coming years.

How do I simply sum up my memories of someone so complicated & special.  Sean was SO many things to SO many people.  He was BRAVE, thinking Sky Diving from airplanes was "fun," as he parachuted dangerously to the ground.  Sean was a HERO, an Army Medi-vac Pilot in our US military who saved countless lives.  He was FUNNY... a real clown.  To the delite and lifetime memories of 1000's of children, Sean's charitable nature lead him to donate his time as a Shriner Clown.  He was ROMANTIC, and showered the lucky ladies in his life with flowers & handmade gifts.  He was a PASSIONATE FATHER, who built his world around his daughter, Valerie.  He was my HIGH SCHOOL FRIEND, who told me I was pretty when I needed to hear it most.  He was my PEN PAL, while he was in the military, eventually inviting me to PIN HIS WINGS.  I was SO HONORED to be asked & SO PROUD of my true friend.

Sean accomplished so much in such a short life.  What can I say that sums up Sean?  MY FRIEND... MY MEMORIES... MY LOSS... MY LOVE... MY EMPTINESS.  I truly wish I could be there, to hug & be hugged, to share stories, to not be alone right now.  But, I took a bad fall on stage, injuring many discs in my neck and back.  I've been recovering with physical therapy since 10/06, and am awaiting spinal surgery.  Please know the obvious:  Sean was an exceptional man, who will NEVER be forgotten.  I will carry his memory in my heart forever.

Thank you, Valerie & Dave Thib for contacting me.
It would have been very painful to find out accidentally.
I truly appreciate your courtesy in this stressful time.

This weekend, as I celebrate my independence, I also mourn the loss of my good friend, Sean, who helped protect & defend it.

BE A HERO... SAVE PUBLIC BROADCASTING! Bush & Congress Slashed It's budget 56%! Save Vital News, Educational & Cultural Programming and Media. FREE MP3S, DOWNLOAD SONGS, SONG DOWNLOADS, POP SUPERHERO, COOKIE CUTTER GIRL, POWER OF PINK, GET THE PICTURE

Free Press Action Fund: Action Alert

Dear Future Heroes,

Funding for public broadcasting is in danger. Tell Congress to save public broadcasting.

Take Action Now

The Bush administration has slashed the proposed public broadcasting budget by 56 percent -- putting at risk vital news, educational and cultural programming that millions of Americans say they prefer to commercial media.

Congress must stand with the millions of Americans who have acted in the past against such drastic cuts. The Senate is going to vote on the Bush cuts tomorrow. You have the power to make sure they protect public broadcasting. But you must act now:

Tell Congress: Save Public Broadcasting

By taking action, you can push Congress to pass legislation that not only restores but increases funding for diverse public media.

Now more than ever, public media need your support.

As our nation readies to vote for the next president, we need news and information outlets that focus on the issues that matter most.

Public broadcasting's commitment to serious, independent journalism stands in stark contrast to the relentless spin of 24-hour cable news. And it shows. In poll after poll, Americans say that public media programs are the most trusted news sources in the country.

These funds also ensure that families across the country will be able to tune in to high-quality educational and children's programming. But this noncommercial media won't survive unless we speak out.

Sign our Petition to Congress: Save Public Broadcasting

Let’s work together for a brighter and better future for America’s public media.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARTY JOHN CUSACK, JUNE 28 1966! Chicago Actor Filmography,War Inc,1408,Must Love Dogs,Identity,Being John Malkovich,Grosse Pointe Blank,High Fidelity,Serendipity,Say Anything,Sixteen Candles,CDs,DVDs,POSTER,POP SUPERHERO,COOKIE CUTTER GIRL

Happy Birthday John Cusack!

TOP 10 REASONS JOHN CUSACK
IS ONE OF MY PERSONAL HEROES

1.  He chooses intelligent films that make us THINK for ourselves.
(...and did a lot of "fun films" in his youth too. *smile*)

2. He shares the "love" by hiring his friends & family.
(His sister, Joan, co-stars with him often, as does his friend, Jeremy Piven, and he's hired several siblings for minor roles too.)

3.  His witty, dry humor...  This Pop Superhero just *loves* a dark, sarcastic man.
(Note that his characters often display the same sarcastic, smirky responses.)

4.  He's a devoted kick-boxing fan for 20+ years... and looks hot doing it!
(Check out his fight scene with his real life teacher in "Grosse Pointe Blank.")

5.  He's an avid reader of non-fiction, historical and biographical books.
(One might call him a "head-throb..." I just call him "Sexy.")

6.  He's hometown proud, keeping up his dual residency between Los Angeles, for his work, and Chicago, his original "home."  (Everyone loves a guy with strong roots, right?)

7.  A natural born activist and environmentalist, his "TURN-ON" is ENERGY and his "TURN-OFF" is PASSIVITY.

8.  He's politically ACTIVE & BRAVE enough to openly voice his opinions.
(Check out his video on McCain & Bush in my "John Cusack Tribute TV" Yahoo Playlist.)

9.  The music in his films is often as memorable as the films themselves.
(The Clash, Fishbone, The Ramones and The Specials are fave bands of his.  This girl *had* to have the soundtrack to his movie, "Grosse Pointe Blank," immediately.)

10.
What would he be, if he weren't an actor (and activist?)... A MUSICIAN, LIKE ME!

GEORGE CARLIN DIES. LEGEND DEAD at 71. "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television" led to a Supreme Court Ruling on Obscenity. He was a Social Commentator, Philosopher & Legendary, Influencial Comedian. POP SUPERHERO,POWER OF PINK,COOKIE CUTTER GIRL

Who of us does not know of George Carlin?  I remember seeing him live, as a teen, with my Father and brother.  I was immediately struck by his confidence, ease and intelligence, reciting his humorous commentary on food for all my friends.  Yet, I could never come close to capturing his delivery.  He has paved the way for so many comedians today, who owe the freedom of expression they enjoy on stage to artists like Lenny Bruce & George Carlin.  This Pop Superhero will keep him alive in spirit through his words,  hoping those listening can still hear his delivery, and see his expressions, in their minds & hearts...

LOS ANGELES (June 23) - George Carlin, the frenzied performer whose routine "Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television" led to a key Supreme Court ruling on obscenity, has died.

Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas. He was 71.

"He was a genius and I will miss him dearly," Jack Burns, who was the other half of a comedy duo with Carlin in the early 1960s, told The Associated Press.

Carlin's jokes constantly breached the accepted boundaries of comedy and language, particularly with his routine on the "Seven Words" - all of which are taboo on broadcast TV and radio to this day.

When he uttered all seven at a show in Milwaukee in 1972, he was arrested on charges of disturbing the peace, freed on $150 bail and exonerated when a Wisconsin judge dismissed the case, saying it was indecent but citing free speech and the lack of any disturbance.

    Carlin's Greatest Hits (Warning: Explicit)

    'Seven Dirty Words'

    'Baseball and Football'

    'Cats and Dogs'

    'On Voting'

When the words were later played on a New York radio station, they resulted in a 1978 Supreme Court ruling upholding the government's authority to sanction stations for broadcasting offensive language during hours when children might be listening.

"So my name is a footnote in American legal history, which I'm perversely kind of proud of," he told The Associated Press earlier this year.

Despite his reputation as unapologetically irreverent, Carlin was a television staple through the decades, serving as host of the "Saturday Night Live" debut in 1975 - noting on his Web site that he was "loaded on cocaine all week long" - and appearing some 130 times on "The Tonight Show."

He produced 23 comedy albums, 14 HBO specials, three books, a couple of TV shows and appeared in several movies, from his own comedy specials to "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" in 1989 - a testament to his range from cerebral satire and cultural commentary to downright silliness (and sometimes hitting all points in one stroke).

"Why do they lock gas station bathrooms?" he once mused. "Are they afraid someone will clean them?"

He won four Grammy Awards, each for best spoken comedy album, and was nominated for five Emmy awards. On Tuesday, it was announced that Carlin was being awarded the 11th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, which will be presented Nov. 10 in Washington and broadcast on PBS.

Carlin started his career on the traditional nightclub circuit in a coat and tie, pairing with Burns to spoof TV game shows, news and movies. Perhaps in spite of the outlaw soul, "George was fairly conservative when I met him," said Burns, describing himself as the more left-leaning of the two. It was a degree of separation that would reverse when they came upon Lenny Bruce, the original shock comic, in the early '60s.

"We were working in Chicago, and we went to see Lenny, and we were both blown away," Burns said, recalling the moment as the beginning of the end for their collaboration if not their close friendship. "It was an epiphany for George. The comedy we were doing at the time wasn't exactly groundbreaking, and George knew then that he wanted to go in a different direction."  That direction would make Carlin as much a social commentator and philosopher as comedian, a position he would relish through the years.

"The whole problem with this idea of obscenity and indecency, and all of these things - bad language and whatever - it's all caused by one basic thing, and that is: religious superstition," Carlin told the AP in a 2004 interview. "There's an idea that the human body is somehow evil and bad and there are parts of it that are especially evil and bad, and we should be ashamed. Fear, guilt and shame are built into the attitude toward sex and the body.  It's reflected in these prohibitions and these taboos that we have."

In 1960, he left with Burns, a Texas radio buddy, for Hollywood to pursue a nightclub career as comedy team Burns & Carlin. He left with $300, but his first break came just months later when the duo appeared on Jack Paar's "Tonight Show."

Carlin said he hoped to emulate his childhood hero, Danny Kaye, the kindly, rubber-faced comedian who ruled over the decade Carlin grew up in - the 1950s - with a clever but gentle humor reflective of the times. It didn't work for him, and the pair broke up by 1962.

"I was doing superficial comedy entertaining people who didn't really care: Businessmen, people in nightclubs, conservative people. And I had been doing that for the better part of 10 years when it finally dawned on me that I was in the wrong place doing the wrong things for the wrong people," Carlin reflected recently as he prepared for his 14th HBO special, "It's Bad For Ya."

TELL CONGRESS IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE w/ 1 Click of Your Mouse! "The Employee Free Choice Act" would get our economy back on track & Negotiate for better benefits, wages, and working conditions. BE A HERO! Pop Superhero,Power of Pink,Cookie Cutter Girl

    Dear lynn,

It's all about strength in numbers:

A million voices for the Employee Free Choice Act... and millions more workers joining unions and raising living standards for all of us.

    Sign the petition!

One Million Strong for the Employee Free Choice Act

Who’s losing out in this sputtering economy?

Not corporate CEOs. Too many of them have made sure to secure a golden parachute for themselves while workers face soaring healthcare costs, foreclosures, and an uncertain future.

The Employee Free Choice Act would help level the playing field and get our economy back on track. That's why we've launched a huge campaign to get one million people to support this bill and tell Congress it’s time for change!

Sign the petition - we're already at 20,695 signatures and we think we can reach 30,000 by Monday! We need you to be one of them.

The Employee Free Choice Act would give more workers the chance to negotiate for better benefits, wages, and working conditions by forming unions.

And that will help all of us. There's strength in numbers, and as we build our collective muscle, we can raise living standards, improve health care, and stop corporate America's race to the bottom.

But some CEOs try to stop unions, preventing their workers from negotiating a contract. In fact, 30% of corporations fire pro-union workers during union organizing drives.1 Of course, no CEO would agree to work without a contract. So why can’t their workers have the same rights?

It’s time to bring back some fairness. That's why we need one million voices supporting the Employee Free Choice Act. But a million people is a LOT of people. We won't reach our goal without YOUR friends and family.

Do you support this bill? Take one minute to sign our petition. Upload a photo while you're at it!

Anti-union groups are mounting a campaign to fight this bill. We can’t match our opponents dollar-for-dollar, but we can prevail if enough people rally to this important cause.

The economy should work for all of us, not just the privileged few. We can get there with your help.

    Sincerely,

    Liz Cattaneo
