Dear Lynn,

This morning, actor and breast cancer activist Ricardo Chavira joined Susan G. Komen for the Cure and leaders of the House Cancer Caucus (Representatives Lois Capps, Sue Myrick, and Steve Israel) on the Capitol steps to talk about reinvigorating the crusade against cancer.

Support Komen activists who visited Washington!

Send an urgent letter to Congress telling them that 1,500 cancer deaths a day is 1,500 too many.

Here in Washington, DC the energy behind our movement is palpable. Momentum is gathering and our strength is building.

This week, hundreds of Komen activists made the trip to Capitol Hill to personally press lawmakers to join the crusade against cancer. And this weekend they'll join nearly 50,000 runners and walkers in the Susan G. Komen National Race for the CureĀ®.

Even if you weren't able to come to Washington, you can still help from home. If a congressional office receives a visit from us and an immediate follow up from our online activists, it signals to lawmakers that that there is a groundswell of energy and support behind us that can't be ignored.

Become a virtual participant in Komen's Lobby Day. Tell your members of Congress to get on the frontlines of the war on cancer by supporting comprehensive cancer legislation.

Even before his heartbreaking cancer diagnosis, Senator Edward Kennedy was working along side Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison on comprehensive cancer legislation to redouble the nation's commitment to fighting all types of cancer.

The bill, which will be introduced soon, takes ambitious steps to increase investment in research; remove barriers that currently hinder progress in cancer research; improve early detection and treatment; and close gaps in access to care.

There was a time when a cancer diagnosis was an automatic death sentence. There have been enormous, life-saving strides in recent decades. But we're not across the finish line yet - not when 1,500 Americans are dying of cancer every day. It's time to devote American ingenuity, resilience and sense of national purpose to defeating these diseases.

Join us in this struggle. Ask your elected representatives take up the fight against cancer.

And don't stop there! Help increase our momentum. Click here to pass the word along to your friends and family and encourage them to contact Congress as well.

Thank you so much for the hard work and commitment you've brought to this cause.

Sincerely,

Diane Balma
